Welcome to 10 Legs! I just arrived here myself recently (September 2013, click here to find out more and check out my first post) and expect to stay for a while. Not in a Mr. Roger’s sort of way but in a, “Hi, take a seat at the bar, or roll up your sleeves and dig in,” sort of way.
I’m Stacey, and this is my blog. I love to cook and I love to eat, but I don’t just love to eat and I don’t just love to cook; I love to think about food, look at it, smell it, and escape in stories surrounding food. I can be inspired by the colors, textures, shapes – the cultural origins, smells and tastes; or I can happily be contemplative and reflective while enjoying a simple meal in solitude. Just as easily, I can be opinionated (thanks Mom) and passionately intense over any meal shared with friends or family! I believe that many of life’s great moments coincide while sharing or celebrating with food. Most people don’t understand the power it has on life’s quality, but those of us that do, are the better for it! Just ask Buddy, my boy dog, how it has changed his life. As you might have guessed by the blog title (and the illustration on the top of my posts – thanks Pete), this blog is about food AND it involves our dogs, along with their place in my kitchen because when I cook, they are always in the kitchen. Sometimes, that is what motivates me to go in there and causes my husband Tom to stay out (or else this would be called 12 Legs in the Kitchen instead of 10; and trust me, THAT could get crowded). This blog however, for me, is about so much more. It is about commitment and passion. It is about finding time in a busy life to do something for myself while also hopefully, speaking to someone else; you – whoever is out there reading – about something that makes you feel that the time reading was worth the time spent. I rarely regret a single moment spent “in the kitchen” and the stories that make up my world revolve significantly around food.
As with anything, life always comes into play and without inserting the meaningful moments that lead up to eating, we would be left only with full bellies. So, this blog will jump around depending on moods, availability, motivation and something worthy to say. You will hear from me mostly, but sometimes from Tom, and occasionally Ginger or Buddy will take the reins (they too have minds of their own and quite a bit to say; we suggest that when they speak, you sit, stay and listen (Tom and I have become better for doing the same)!
Unlike so many people we know and interact with, Tom and I chose to have furry, four-legged children, rather than those hairless, two-legged kind that are typically spoken about when referring to the trials and tribulations of parenthood. We know it is very different and coincidently, our life is a little different too. Make no mistake though, we too have to abide by their routine and we too sacrifice what is best for us with what is best for them. Their antics at and around the table can be both exhausting and adorable – rewarding or intolerable. They don’t require daycare (well, they do require Debbie, our fabulous dog walker) but they do require love, in large quantities, and they are definitely motivated by food!
It’s that simple.

Ha ha! I so agree about lots of doggie legs in the kitchen being less intrusive than two husband legs 🙂 Looking forward to reading more of your blog.
Maybe it is because they are at ground level (not counter height)! It is all part of the mix and the outcome; if only I could teach them (husband and doggies alike) more skills. Tom does do the laundry though and I was just put in my place over trying a load myself. Thanks for your comment!
